Idyllic parkland
The Gardens at Oxenfoord Castle
Oxenfoord Castle is set high above the River Tyne, surrounded by idyllic parkland and open countryside and the gardens set around the venue are skillfully planted to ensure their beauty all year round.
There are formal terraced gardens designed in the 19th century which wrap all round the Castle, while well maintained woodlands include the ‘Broad Walk’ which offers a wonderfully romantic route to the nearby church: an avenue of sequoia trees forms a green canopy above the path during the summer months, making the 10 minute procession to the church a truly special part of the wedding day.
Directly behind the Castle is the expanse of velvety croquet lawn onto which the Drawing Room looks out and to which there is a sweeping stone staircase – a favourite photo location. This makes a perfect place for outdoor ceremonies and drinks receptions in the warmer months and can also be used for outdoor games later in the day – (lawn games can be hired for the occasion).
The enchanting Rose Garden to the east is also ideal for drinks as guests arrive, for pre-wedding breakfast drinks and of course, as a stunning background for bride and groom photo opportunities.
