The Castle at Oxenfoord
Oxenfoord, elegant but still a comfortable family home, is a Grade l Scottish castle complete with towers, turrets and its own church. Situated just 12 miles from the city of Edinburgh. The Castle offers a wonderfully grand interior and fairytale backdrop for exclusive use weddings and events all year round.
The impressive stone flanked entrance leads you to the beautiful wooded drive culminating in a high bridge that spans the glen, giving you your first view of landscaped parkland, and sweeps you up to the grandeur of the Castle. The splendour continues inside, your first introduction, the stone hall bedecked with armoury, through a door to welcoming plush comfort, floor to ceiling windows, a wealth of antiques, family portraits, ornate wood carving and panelling, and intricate plaster ceilings.
Weddings and events take place in the elegant and versatile spaces of the ground floor, from which the glorious gardens can be seen on three sides sides.
If you hire Oxenfoord Castle, it is yours exclusively for the duration of your wedding or event. Wedding couples also have use of the large Bridal Room on the first floor: a luxurious room with en suite bathroom, available from morning until night on the big day.
Weddings and events can take place in any or all of the following spaces:
The Morning Room
Picture a roaring fire, huge windows and a grand piano waiting to be played. This room makes an ideal setting for a welcoming drinks reception for around 80 people.
The Library
Crimson walls, a splendid marble fireplace and full height windows on two sides, the family portraits and bookcases make the Library a sophisticated and lavish room in which to entertain guests, with plenty of space for up to 150 people to enjoy drinks and canapés.
The Ball Room
Perhaps the pièce de résistance of the Castle – a breathtakingly bright and beautiful room which can be combined with The Library. Primrose yellow with an elaborate ceiling adorned with gold leaf this is a perfect Robert Adam. This space is used both for ceremonies and dining, with up to ten round tables of ten places, easily accommodated.
The Dining Room
Here soft green walls are hung with exquisite 18th century paintings brought back from Italy by Sir John Dalrymple following his ‘Grand Tour’. This room can be the setting of a wedding ceremony, wedding breakfast or evening buffet – the choice is yours.
The Bar
The Castle has a fully fitted professional bar located outside The Dining Room with everything our Oxenfoord Castle bartenders require to create everything from imaginative takes on classic cocktails to pouring a range of fine whiskies or craft ales.
